We named our acreage Ironwood Family Farms after the ironwood trees growing all over the property. It turns out that most people consider a different type of tree to be an ironwood tree! Well, our trees aren't always considered ironwoods, but they do have a hard flexible wood. They are actually maclura pomifera or Osage Orange trees. We also call them hedge ball trees and love using a giant slingshot to shoot the balls over the pond at family gatherings. The seeds are naturally stratified in buckets (and sometimes the pond - when we miss with the slingshot) throughout our cold midwest winter and just need a nice 48 hour soak, warm soil, and a bit of time to start growing for you. We always throw in a few extra just in case you need them.
