Description: ~~ORIGINAL! Early drawing of Dartmouth College~~ This listing is for 5 total items, belonging to Henry F. Grain. 3 drawings and two prints. All original and all from the same period. This lot was donated to Marylhurst College in the early 1900s by a family member, and stayed in their rare books and documents collections until they closed in 2018. 1. Drawing of Dartmouth College. Before 1850, as both the main, and residents buildings were expanded to 3 floors and 2 floors respectively. The main building has the bell tower, residents building is behind. Image has a coffee or similar stain in the center, darkening around edges, some small closed tears around edges, and wear at corners. 2. Lettering "Album". 3. Portrait possibly the artist, but subject is unknown. Drawing looks unfinished. 4. National Washington Monument - Signed but not dated. Poor condition with many rips and tears around edges, and foxing present across the entire sheet. We are able to date the lot because of this piece. It is before the monument was completed, when they were still fundraising for its completion, the final did not have the columns at the bottom. This monument's design went through many variations before it was completed and this design was late 1830s - 1845. 5. Print of Dartmouth College. Lithograph, printed by Jenkins and Colburn's Lith. Boston. Later than the drawing, as main building has more floors and there are now many more buildings, but still early, c1860 or later.
