Description: 1875-S 20c Twenty Cent Piece Broadstruck PCGS XF45 PCGS 1875-S twenty cent piece broadstrike, with the coin struck out of collar and expanded in size. There's a nice amount of planchet showing, and the coin has good eye-appeal as a broadstrike. Broadstrikes occur when a coin is struck without the collar die in place to retain the metal flow and give the coin it's edge impression. This coin is missing the reeding on the edge, and also has expanded well beyond it's normal size. Major mint errors are rare on twenty cent pieces, largely beause major errors on precious metal (silver) coins of the 19th century are almost always scarce, and also because of the very short amount of time that twenty cent pieces were strike (just 4 years.) As a result, few are known.
