The Centennial Exposition was held in Philadelphia from May 10 to November 10, 1876, serving as both the World Fair for 1876 and a commemoration of the centennial of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Over its six months, close to 10 million visitors attended the exposition, which featured the participation of individual states and 37 countries. Beyond cultural and historic pieces, numerous inventions were displayed from both prominent and then-unknown inventors, including early versions of the typewriter, telephone, automatic telegraphic, and sewing machine, along with foods and drinks such as ketchup, popcorn, and root beer. 26 of 37 states contributed their own buildings to the event, with many produced using localized materials and architectural styles.
