Description: Appears to document a stop along a displacement march to reservation, possibly as early as the late 1880s. There is no finery or ceremony here to suggest in any way that this is a celebratory gathering. Men, women and children in various states of mundane dress sit to simultaneously eat (bare rib dog looks on). Detail image is scanned at a high DPI to allow for inspection of the distance, where men in Western dress / hats on horseback seem to guard the line. Very possibly taken to prove to a government agency that the tribes were being fed along the march. No identification or location recorded. 7 x 9” white pebbled board w/ heavy foxing that does not affect image beyond margins. Contrast is significantly stronger at left and fades horizontally.
