We offer for your consideration an original 1896 stamped official commemorative cover issued to commemorate the visit to France, Czar Nicholas II of Russia and the Czarina from the 5-th to the 9-th October, 1896. This was a goodwill visit that eventually led to the signing of a treaty between France and Russia called the Franco-Russian Alliance. This particular envelope was issued to commemorate the visit to Paris on 6th October. The cancellation mark is actually dated in October, 1896. This is a significant and scarce item. In 1917 the Russian Revolution removed the Czar from power & he and his family were taken to Ekaterinburg where they were all executed by the communists on 17th July, 1918. This ended the reign of the Romanov Dynasty.Covers pertaining Romanovs still generate considerable interest. Condition is good to fair. Slight right corner tear. The envelope may have light wear, scratching, toning, fading, minor staining, spotting, soft or dinged corners & slight wear, as shown in pics. A nice envelope , with great display potential.
