Struck in Philadelphia and designated as a Business (MS) strike, this coin is made of 90% gold; 10% copper from a mintage of 4,271,551 struck.The 1908 No Motto is the last of the No motto Saint-Gaudens $20 which were retrofitted with the motto IN GOD WE TRUST later in 1908. The 1908 No Motto $20s are very common, certainly more so than even the 1907 No motto saints which are widely available. The 1908 No Motto double eagle is one of the most common of the entire series and thus are often sought by collectors who are building gold type collections. This piece is easily obtainable through the Gem Uncirculated grade range, with a handful known even in MS69.Obverse: Liberty is portrayed standing on a rock, holding a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left. The word LIBERTY appears on the top periphery surrounded by stars. The date is stamped on the right side of the coin, just above the rock.Reverse: A crescent sun appears at the bottom as if rising on the horizon with long rays extending to the top of the coin. A flying eagle covers the central portion, atop the rays. The words UNITED STATES oF AMERICA, TWENTY DOLLARS appear on the top periphery.
