Description: FYI - "zipsdm" are watermarks to protect the photo from digital piracy and not printed onto the actual photograph Two immigrant Mexican children on a Texas farm on donkey (or mule). Attached to the donkey is a barrel which farmers used to "roll the land" or flatten the soil. This breaks up large clods of dirt and makes planting and harvesting easier. The back of the card indicates this was for cabbage, tomato and potato crops. The use of Mexican immigrant labor was not looked upon as poorly as today. Unsure how immigrant child labor was viewed in the 1920s but it was (and still is) commonplace for a farmer's children to have daily farming chores and help with a wide range of other farming duties. I doubt they viewed Mexican children as less capable. Pretty sure this farm was near the San Antonio area. Probably taken between 1920-1930. Good condition especially considering its age. Wear around the edges/corners and light little "bumps" but these don't affect viewing the image. No tears, creases or stains. The picture is approx. 3" x 5"
