Description: 1920s POKE or Sun Prarie BONNET, Printed Broadcloth Cotton, Long Neck Ruffle Click images to enlarge Description ANTIQUE POKE BONNET Wonderful antique poke or prairie women's full size adult bonnet from Ohio. Machine made, it has a stiffened lining around the inside of the brim, designed to help protect the face from sun or wind - a small decorative ruffle wraps the head - bottom edge bears a long loose gathered flap for keeping the neck back from burning - complete with original ties as well. Interior construction is edged with a coordinating fabric tape, and the bonnet has worn elastic around where the neck flap is gathered. Material appears to be a cotton broadcloth with a floral pattern on maroon - accented with a fandom fleur-de-lis print. Condition is good with edge wear, a hint of fading, a few stains, and rather crude stitching in places. This belonged to my Great Grandmother - they owned a large farm in Parma, Ohio when it was rural - we can date it to the 1920s based on family photos. I think it is such a neat old primitive poke bonnet - fun addition to any antique clothing collection or display! If questions, please contact me - thanks! Images sell!
