Description: For sale today is the exceptionally rare key of the 1923 $1 Silver Certificates. This is the Fr 239 with the Woods-Tate signature. This was an extremely short printing with few plates made of this type. They kept the Speelman-White and Woods-White plates going along side these to the end of the printing so they make up a tiny percentage of the population. This was the last signature on any large size US currency, Woodchoppers stopped at the Woods-White signature so this is the only series to carry the Tate signature before the switch to small size notes. These $1 Silver Certificates were true workhorses of the American economy and were once redeemable for an actual silver dollar. They were affectionately referred to as horse blankets due to their size or cogwheels. This note is professionally graded AU-53 by PMG. Crisp and clean! PMG mentions a comment of trimmed which hardly looks worth the notation. One side margin is a little uneven but it doesn’t really look like much if any paper was removed. There are no folds on this note so it looks like a nice CU note that got knocked for the margin. These are tough to find in a decent grade, especially this nice! This is the finest Fr 239 that I have ever had. This lists at $420 in AU-50 and $490 in AU-58. Grab this bargain while you can, these rarely turn up this nice and this looks every bit of a $600+ CU note that got a barely noticeable margin shave. Thanks for looking and have a great day!
