Illustrated throughout, with fifteen plates of buildings designed by Vanbrugh. Collated, complete. Written by Laurence Whistler, a British poet and artist. John Vanbrugh is best known as the designer of Blenheim Palace and Castle Howard. In his work as a dramatist he wrote two argumentative and outspoken Restoration comedies titled The Relapse and The Provoked Wife. CONDITION In a full cloth binding with gilt stamping to spine and front board. Externally, generally smart with small patches of rubbing to the spine and joints, particularly to the head and tail. Rubbing to front joint is slightly heavier than rubbing to rear joint. A few spots to boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are slightly age toned to edges with scattered spots to endpapers and the odd spot throughout.
