Description: These are cute but also quite interesting because these reflect a time when using toothpaste and toothbrushes wasn't regular practice. It wasn't until after WW2 when the US military required soldiers to brush regularly that it became common place to brush your teeth daily with a toothbrush and, the tooth "paste" of the day, baking powder and salt. Both booklets were released during WW2 and reflect what dentists believe was good oral hygiene - brushing but also exercise, healthy foods, the sun to get vitamin D and quite a few other little things. Both booklets are essentially saying the same thing but the 1942 booklet, "My Friend Nick" is about a child from Greece whose family shares personal dental care practiced by Greeks (because everyone in Greece apparently have great teeth!). It turns out the people of Greece use the ends of twigs as toothbrushes, but this is the practice used by many cultures centuries before. So, it wasn't until about 60 to 80 years ago when the world stopped using twigs as the primary way to brush teeth! Both are in very good condition and excellent when considering their age - only minor ruffles, small stains and wear. You'll be impressed with their preservation! "Your Teeth and their Care" is approx. 5" x 6-1/4" with 14 pages. Published 1944 - staple bound paperback."My Friend Nick" is approx. 6" x 5" with 12 pages. Published 1942 - staple bound paperback. Plus, each page is filled with great colorful illustrations - interesting and fun!
