The button features a black and white photo of former General Dwight D Eisenhower in civilian garb, the Supreme Allied European Theater Commander during World War II. It reads; The Man of the Hour, Eisenhower. Ike defeated Adlai Stevenson II during the height of the Korean War. My father's best friend and neighbor, a veteran of the 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, noted the 508th was picked as Eisenhower's bodyguard detail during the occupation and he said Sergeant Leonard Funk, a Medal of Honor recipient, was instrumental in galvanizing 508th vets and WWII veterans in particular with supporting Ike. The neighbor told me an amusing story about this how Funk got through to Ike on the phone while at a 508th Reunion despite having imbibed to quite the extent. The pin is a traditional celluloid button with straight needle pin. It was saved as a souvenir. The Campaign Pin is in fair to good condition and is 71 years old.
