The M-1951 uniform clothing system was designed for the bitterly cold weather conditions that US troops faced during the Korean Conflict. Temperatures dropped to as low as -54 degrees F, as winters raged for 5-6 months. The pile field cap was worn for both cold-dry & cold-wet conditions, providing the best protection against weather colder than 0 (zero) degrees F. Color is olive drab (OD) cap & has a wind-resistant, water-repellent, poplin outer shell with wool-blend lining. The visor can be worn up or down & the pile-lined ear flaps have a drawstring closure. Inside patch gives details on how to wear this cap optimally, depending on various weather conditions & could be worn under a helmet, as well. The wool lining on the interior (top of the head) is smooth, while the wool pile lining on the ear flaps is deep & comfortable. This particular cap is the rarely seen size of 6.75 (6 & 3/4).
