It may contain wrinkles, cracks, and possibly even tears due to its age and how it was handled before it got to us. London: Still standing proudly on the Thames embankment is this 3,500-year-old obelisk -- Cleopatra's Needle, the triumph column of the Pharaoh Thotnes III, who lived about 1,500 B.C. During the Greek Dynasty, the monument was removed to Alexandria, capital of Cleopatra's Egypt. In 1878, it was encased in a cylinder and towed to England. After being abandoned in a storm in the Bay of Biscay, the monument was recovered and erected on the embankment in 1978. And...well, here it is. England, cities, London, statues, memorials Photo measures 7 x 9 inches. Photo is dated 05-07-1956.
