The Chiefs replaced the Montreal Royals in the International League in 1961 after having their previous team move to Miami in 1955. The Chiefs finished last in the league and Charleston was 2nd in1961. Syracuse's parent team was the Minnesota Twins and for Charleston it was the St Louis Cardinals. They actually started the season in San Juan. A number of future and past Major Leaguers were on the two rosters including Tim McCarver, George Crowe, Ray Washburn, Bob Duliba, Bob Grim, Joe Altobelli, Willie Miranda, Bob Lennon, Lee Stange, and Ralph Lumenti to name a few.
