Description: 1966 Panama 1 Balboa Rare Old Certi-Grade Coin Grading Service (CGCGS) Rattler BU Low Mintage Silver. CGCGS tried to mimic the popularity of PCGS when they developed their own version of the Rattler. They graded this coin Gem BU, however, that might be a little optimistic. Regardless the grade and really the coin aren't as important as the slab. With that said it does contain a nice BU silver Balboa. These old slabs are getting harder and harder to find and would make the perfect addition to any collection, whether you are a slab collector or a Balboa collector. Own a piece of numismatic history. Since its separation from Colombia in 1903, Panama has used the United States Dollar. The One Balboa has the same specifications as a U.S. Silver Dollar. However, due to the rising price of silver in the 1960s, these coins were never issued for general circulation and were sold above face value. 300,000 were originally minted, which is low to begin with even if they were saved. However, in 1971 more than 200,000 of the 1966 coins were melted down to provide silver for 20 Balboa coins.
