Description: These are 2 stunning antique gilt silver hairpins made with silver, kingfisher feather and gemstones. Known as 點翠 / 点翠 to the Chinese, Tian-Tsui translates to "dotting with kingfishers". Its a traditional practice in which kingfisher feathers were cut to size and incorporated into sterling silver and silver gilt jewelry to create a dazzling fluorescent blue finish. Made by hand in the late 19th to early 20th century. Overall in very good condition, these are antique items show normal wear for a piece of this age. Some repairs made by the previous owner.
