The irregular lozenge shaped bonk coinage was usually stamped with a year and denomination.There was a shortage of copper coins around this time because of the slow delivery from the Netherlands. The government in the East Indies resorted to the manufacture of "Bonks". So, people also called this coin as emergency coins. This coins was designed to quickly and cheaply supply coinage to colony that was rich with trade yet short on coinage.
