20" Antique Dolly Madison China-Head Doll Germany Leather Arms c. 1880 Kestner

Description: From my collection: I have decided to sell a few of my many china head dolls if they are similar to others that I have. Note: The chair that she sits in is on another listing and is not included. It is shown because she looks good in it and she has sat in it for so many years. 20-inch antique glazed German china head doll circa 1880. She is unmarked as are most china heads, but is likely made by Kestner. Author Mary Krumbholz stated in her book, "500 Years of German Dollmaking" that of the seven Thuringian china doll makers, Kestner painted a small white dot on the Iris just as this one has. She said that is a key identifier for Kestner chinas. Glazed shoulder-head: Her lovely face is bright and beautiful with a Dolly Madison molded black hairstyle. She has a high-color painted face with blue eyes and bright pink cheeks and terra cotta lip color. She has two tiny pin-size pits on her china face (above right eye) that were fired on at the factory 140 or so years ago. Body: She has her original cloth body and leather arms. Her body is in good condition, but her leather arms are in poor condition with sawdust leaking out. However, if she sits quietly in a chair; you would never know. Clothing: Although not original, her dress is very old and it buttons in the back. I added a rose and ecru overdress (snaps in back) on top of her antique dress as I think it suits her. Both dresses will be included with her. Her antique muslin slip and pantaloons are likely original as are the black knit socks. The camel soft leather shoes are vintage replacements.
