Description: In 2001, the Smithsonian Institution opened the National Museum of the American Indian. Congress authorized the commemorative silver dollar to raise funds for the museum and to commemorate Native Americans in America. James Earle Fraser's iconic Buffalo Nickel designs were reused on the front and back, paying homage to his wildly popular and timeless American designs. The obverse depicts a Native American with feathers in his hair. To the right, the word "LIBERTY" is in front of his eyes, and the date and Fraser's unique initial "F" are below. The reverse depicts an American bison standing on a mound. The upper periphery bears the words “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “IN GOD WE TRUST”. Below the bison is the inscription “E PLURIBUS UNUM” and below the mound is the denomination “ONE DOLLAR”.This commemorative silver set has proven to be one of the most popular modern coins of the United States Mint. The set contains two dollars, one proof, and one uncirculated brilliant. Comes complete with original box and certificate of authenticity. Condition: Box does show some wear & tear. Coins may show signs of aging, tarnishing, &/or oxidation. Please see photos for reference.
