(2758) Perfume bottle, Franchini and Bigaglia (?), End 19th c. Murano-Venezia

Description: Beautiful perfume bottle, in opaque yellow glass and silver leaf with a murrina "Gondola". Solid brass stopper. Last decade of the 19th century, Murano - Venezia. It is ascribed to Giacomo Franchini and produced by Pietro Bigaglia by some collectors, but we have a different opinion. The shape of the bottle and the colors are different from the certified Franchini - Bigaglia bottles. Considering these items were very expensive also at their time, we suppose this kind of bottle was made as a second-line production, by an unknown imitator. The result is not exceptional, like those made by Franchini, but of more than decent quality. We could also go to suppose they were made under the supervision of Bigaglia, when, after 1875, G. Franchini more or less stopped the production. You could see similar bottles in the catalog "Venetian beads, Mosaic glass and Murrine", written by G. Sarpellon, on occasion of an exposition kept in Venezia in 2003. For most of the "murrine" included, see the same catalog, pictures 574-582, page 75. Size: Length: 71mm. Width: 29mm. Thickness: 18mm.
