Description: Little Drops of Water Blessed Joan of Portugal (Although she has been beatified, not canonized, she is known in Portugal as the Princess Saint Joanna)Joan was born in 1452, in Lisbon, Portugal. She was the daughter of King Afonso V and Queen Isabella. As a child, Joan proved to have a great religious vocation and, despite various requests for marriage, she decided to consecrate herself to God. When she was twenty years old, she joined the convent of Jesus of Aveiro, a Dominican Order, where she lived the rest of her life, passing away in 1490. She was very generous and helped the poorest and most needy people and she was considered by the people to be a Saint. Joan was beatified in 1693 by Pope Innocent XII, and in 1965 Pope Paul VI declared her protector of Aveiro.
