Description: Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE This four-volume set belonged to my father-in-law. My husband recalled they were in his dad’s bookcase as early as 1955. They appear as though they have never been read. There are no high-lightings, underscores, or margin notations. In my opinion, from reading eBay’s descriptions, this set fails to meet the requirements of “like new” for the reasons I attempt to show in the photos and describe here. They really are in very good condition and have very little foxing. I have taken photos of the cover page in each volume. Then after that I display anything of note that I noticed, and will mention it here. The first seven photos display the books as a group, showing the condition of the covers, the spines, and the corners of the covers. There is some wear on the tops of the spines, likely from individuals removing the books from the shelf. The corners of the covers show some wear, from being moved about, packed to be moved, and the like. Volume One has a nice oversized map that is in nice condition. The map shows no foxing but was folded away once with a small fold in the top right corner. I have straightened the fold. But the evidence is there. I chose to display two of the photos from Volume One: Lee’s birthplace and a copy of his birth record. Volume One has some foxing on the inside cover, mostly along the seam between the cover and the book, but there are two spots, one on the top of the cover and one on the top of the cover page. These seem to have been caused by the same drip, or drop of water from above. There is no foxing that I can find in the book itself, but there is foxing in the seam between the back cover and the book. There is also an identifying ownership mark in the back of the book. There is also a photo of the wear on the top of volume one’s spine. There is similar wear on all four volumes, but this one might be slightly worse. Volume Two at first look appears to be in excellent condition. Unfortunately, there is a break in the glue that holds the cover, and cover page, tight to the book. The binding tape is firm and the cover holds it together well, but there is a separation between the book and the cover (and cover sheet). This is clearly shown in the photos. There is no noticeable foxing anywhere. Volume Three and Volume Four are both in very good condition. These two volumes have copyright dates of 1935 and 1936 instead of the 1934 and 1936 reflected in the first two volumes. Volume Four has two small touches of what appears to be white paint, one on the top center of the cover, and one on the spine. Please look closely at the photos. Payment through eBay is required. I would be happy to combine items to reduce shipping costs BUT YOU MUST REQUEST THIS SERVICE BEFORE YOU PURCHASE.
