Description: This mortoniceras ammonite (stand included w/purchase) was found off of McPherson in Fort Worth at a construction site in the Spring of 2024. I prepared this ammonite using my dremel 290, a zoic paleo chisel tip, and a hammer and chisel to free up a large chunk of matrix over the center of the display side, which came off perfectly (luckily). The inner whorls show a beautiful orange suture coloration. The backside is missing a piece of the outer edge that is not visible from the display side, but you should REVIEW ALL PHOTOS to see exactly what I’m referencing. I knocked off excess matrix from the backside, but otherwise left it unprepped. Its estimated age of 90-100 million years old places it in the age of dinosaurs, when a vast sea known as the western interior seaway covered the middle of the North American continent. Some info about my pricing: I typically sell unprepped mortoniceras ammonites to dealers for $7/inch. A nice prepped mortoniceras can go for as much as $20 per inch for larger ones. You’ll see some of my ammonites far cheaper than $7 per inch, usually due to how worn down or damaged the ammonite might be. I still want those ammonites to be good VALUE for the buyer.
