Description: Maker and marks: These 6 lovely porcelain salad or lunch plates have the red mark "A La Paix, 34 rue de l'Opéra, Paris". Several also have the impressed white ware mark number 27 of Theodore Haviland, one of the great Limoges firms. This mark was in use between 1894 and 1957. Source: Third edition of the Collector's Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain by Mary Frank Gaston. A La Paix was a high-end retailer and decorator of top quality luxury porcelain and crystal at the turn of the last century. Its merchandise included exquisite works by Haviland, Charles Ahrenfeldt, Gallé, Wedgwood, Derby, Nymphenburg and Bing and Grondahl, as well as the many exceptional pieces it created in its own workshop. Design: The plates feature a finely painted pattern of intertwined garlands of tiny pink roses and green leaves on fine pure white porcelain. They are trimmed in gold. Size: The plates are 8 3/4 inches wide and together weigh 4 pounds 12 ounces. Condition: They have no nicks, chips, cracks, repairs or crazing. There is major wear to the edges - shown in the photos - and to the verges, which accounts for the low price. Despite the wear, there are only a few tiny utensil marks that can be seen in bright light. Please check all the photos very carefully - they are an important part of the description.
