Description: A Magician Among the Spirits by Harry Houdini First edition, first printing New York: Harper & Brothers, 1924. First edition, first printing. Bound in publisher's blue ribbed cloth ruled and lettered in gilt. Near Fine with light puckering to spine, minor wear at extremities, pages tanned. In a Near Fine unclipped dust jacket with toning to spine and light wear at the extremities including small losses and light soiling. A great copy of the magician's expose of the Spiritualist movement. Houdini was largely skeptical of the Spiritualists, including Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, and questioned their their "fraudulent" magic. He brings into question the group's beliefs in ectoplasm, spirit photography, slate writing, mediumship and clairvoyance. Most notably he critiqued the medium Margery Crandon (1888-1941) who would ironically later predict Houdini's exact death date on Halloween of 1926.
