Description: THE ITEM FOR SALE IS AANCIENT EARLY PERIOD ISLAMIC BRONZE SEAL RING INSCRIBED 7TH A.D. - 9TH A.D Nice hand-engraved bezel. This bronze cast ring came from the flourishing and famous workshops located in the Abbasid Caliphate (modern day Iraq). This ring has a shield shaped bezel and script often comprised of a religious blessing or blessing to bring protection and lucky to the wearer. It is a very early example with a knop to the back of the ring and triangular band seen on Roman and early Byzantine examples. This ring would have been worn round the neck on a cord or chain and is a seal in the true sense of the word as it only fits the tip of the finger. It would have been used on letters or wax seals and would probably belonged to a merchant or other person of good standing in the community. A small seal that packs a lot of history into it. It has not been polished or messed about with and retains its original smooth glossy bronze patina. If you are a collector of early Islamic history then do not miss this its a fantastic item you will not regret purchasing. Fine condition.
