Description: A program for a concert performed by Andres Segovia at McCarter Theater of Princeton University on January 8, 1964, The program is eight pages long, staple-bound, and is SIGNED by Segovia on page 5. At the concert, Segovia performed pieces by J.S. Bach, Ludovico Roncalli, Nicolo Paganini, Alexander Tansman, Frederic Mompou, Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco, Federico Moreno Torroba, Isaac Albeniz, and Joaquin Turina. The pieces by Tansman, Mompou, and Turina -- then-living composers -- were all dedicated to Segovia. This concert was the WORLD PREMIERE of the piece by Mompou, Suite Compostelana. Condition: The program has been folded and shows wrinkles and fold marks. The staple-binding has held up well. There are no pen or pencil marks aside from Segovia's unique signature, which is written in blue pen across the second page of the program list. The item is suitable for framing. Andrés Segovia (1893 – 1987) was a Spanish virtuoso classical guitarist. Many professional classical guitarists were either students of Segovia or students of Segovia's students. Segovia's contribution to the modern-romantic repertoire included not only commissions but also his own transcriptions of classical or baroque works. He is remembered for his expressive performances: his wide palette of tone, and his distinctive musical personality, phrasing and style. Segovia was awarded many prizes and honors, including doctorates honoris causa, from ten universities. On 24 June 1981, he was ennobled by King Juan Carlos I, who gave Segovia the hereditary title of Marqués de Salobreña in the nobility of Spain in recognition of his contributions to music and the arts.
