Description: Animation Cel Master Setup and Original Painted Background Production Art This is a really nice wide animation, pan background, and cel set up of an art studio I’m not sure what show this is from exactly but it was from the 70s or 80s. This could be from a Hanna-Barbera cartoon, a Filmation cartoon, Ruby Spears or a Warner Bros. cartoon. Those are the other types of backgrounds that were in my collection. This is an original production background painted in Gouache This is a rare chance to own a piece of animation history, all animation, art and backgrounds are done digitally now, so there is rarely animation art that is done traditionally This was purchased from Filmart galleries, (Plainville NY- no longer there) sometimes known as Cartoon Art World at a convention in New York City in 2000. Over the next week, I will be posting everything from My Collection. I am trying to liquidated because of space. Acetate The clear sheet used to create animation cels, more stable than nitrate. Cel A cel (short for celluloid) is a sheet of clear acetate or nitrate which is hand-painted and then placed over a background and photographed. The outline of the character (hand-inked or xeroxed) is applied to the front of the animation cel. The colors are hand-painted onto the back of the cel. Original Animation Cel Setup An animation cel or group of cels usually combined with a production background. A cel setup may have one or more levels of cels overlaid on the animation background. Original Backgrounds A painting over which a series of animation cels are photographed to make up a scene in an animated film. During the scene, the background remains constant, whereas the cels, which are placedover the background and photographed, create the action. Original production backgrounds are rare. Two background examples are shown below.
