Description: Antique Bausch & Lomb Microtome, patented in 1903. This is such a nifty old instrument. There is a metal plate on the base that says: Patent May 19, 1903, Bausch & Lomb Optical, Rochester NY, No. 6177. Engraved on the depth adjuster: Patent July 26, 1904. This device seems to be ready to work. The large wheel rotates smoothly, though it would like some lubrication. The piece on the "back" that I will call a vice operates smoothly. Through age and use some paint has chipped off the main unit and some plating has come off the wheel. Measurements are: 9.5" tall xn9" deep x 12.5" wide (including handle). Weighs 35 pounds. My Father bought this used in 1999. He used it in some of his personal projects and experiments. I sure with I'd been available to help because this seems really cool. I can imagine him slicing things so very thinly and then using one of his 10 (yes, 10) microscopes to see all there was to see. Wanna buy a microscope too?
