Description: This is an Antique Cherry Cupboard / Hutch Top.The information we received is that this beautiful old piece is circa 1830.When we purchased the piece many years ago, only the top was available; the base was not present. The wood has the beautiful, warm glow that is characteristic of cherry, with color variation, also characteristic of cherry. One horizontal panel on a door, and the feet are quite a lot lighter in color. I do not know if this is variation in the original cherry stock used, of if these could have been replaced. The crown and the opening for the glass in the doors have carved design in the egg-and-dart (also called egg-and-tongue) pattern, further enhancing the appeal of this charming old piece. This great looking cupboard is actually quite a versatile piece. It could be wed with a base of appropriate style, wood, and size. It could also be hung on a wall as a beautiful display piece for a variety of types of collections of prized antiques or collectible, e.g. for display of plates, platters, or other ceramics in a kitchen or dining room, for a variety of antiques in a family room or living room, or for display of more traditionally masculine items such as duck decoys, fishing items and tackle, etc. in a fishing lodge or cabin. The cupboard top is 49 1/2" x 12 1/2" not including the flared crown. With the crown the dimensions are 54" x 14 3/4". The overall height to the top of the crown is 43 1/8". The doors each measure 19 3/8" x 26 7/8". PLEASE NOTE: The cupboard is being offered strictly for local sale ONLY in the Seattle, King County / Puget Sound area and we will be glad to make local pickup arrangements with you.ConditionThe wood is overall in good condition, but there are several issued the be noted: The are a couple of noticeable scrapes in the wood, most noticeably on the egg and dart carving on the crown to the left of center, on the center column near the holes for the latches, and along the bottom edge about half way between the center panel and the right side. There are some other worn and scuffed areas but these are fairly minor. There is a crack on the inside of one end panel as seen, indicated with a blue arrow. The photos show the condition pretty accurately. Please review them and make your own assessment of the condition as well.As found the doors are not attached. We have two pairs of hinges and two latches that were with the piece when we purchased it. The other side of each latch is missing. We never attempted to assemble the doors and latches. Based on the multiple aspects of the appearance of the hardware, I thought perhaps it is not the original hardware. First, the hardware does not appear to me to be as old as the piece. The latches are marked "NATIONAL MFG. CO." on a flag logo. The hinges are marked "S. W." in a heart logo. Second, there are traces of blue paint on both sides of the hinges, but I saw no paint traces on the cupboard. The hardware is all steel or iron. The hinges originally had a copper plating but as you can see, most of it has worn off and there is a patina of rust on the underlying steel. You may decide to opt for replacing the hardware.Additionally, there is no glass for the doors and the side panels, so the glass will need to be replaced.
