Description: This lovely piece of Royal Vitreous china was crafted in England by John Maddock & Sons Ltd. It is beautifully decorated with colorful flowers and pheasants, gold accented handles and gold beading on the lid and pedestal. Hailing from the late 1890s, this antique wound up in the lowcountry of South Carolina, where large plantation houses and pastoral landscapes abound. The stories of its life are written in delicate crazing lines and hairline cracks. While it does show its age of 100+ years, it is still a gorgeous dish to behold, whether on your dinner table or in your display cabinet. This dish has had a fine and lovely time. Places where hands touched and served and presented food, are visible in the worn spots of the decorative gold rim. Two hairline cracks in the lid suggests a misadventure that turned out just fine in the end. This is the best kind of dish - one that has lived a fully functional festive life for 120 years. While the dame is fragile, she is still functional and too elegant to retire. Dimensions: 12” w (including handles) x 5.5”h (including lid). Marked on the back with JOHN MADDOCK & SONS LTD ROYAL VITREOUS ENGLAND as well as several impression marks which are indiscernible.
