Description: This is an original antique Victorian mauchline ware sewing thread box. The top of this box has a transfer and says "Dryburgh Abbey." On the front, there are thread holes of different sizes with matching numbers. Says "Made of wood ; which grew near alloway kirk ; on the banks of the deen" Sides and bottom are blank. Back of box also has three thread holes of different sizes with matching numbers. One of the numbers is missing. Two original hinges present; one is missing its pin. Inside top has original sticker that says "Use Clark's O.N.T. spool cotton; George A. Clark, Sole Agent; trade mark" Bottom of box has six depressions - I think this is where six spool stands were originally (?). This box measures 4.25 inches in length, 2.75 inches in width and 2 inches in height. It is in very good condition for its age and would be a nice addition to a collection. It weighs 2.75 oz.
