Description: Antique Victorian Acrostic Ring. 18k gold, Ruby, Emerald, Garnet, Amethyst, Ruby, Diamond. Made in England, 19th century. Independent appraisal. Measurements: Weight is 1.9 grams. US size 6. Description : ring in the form of a daisy flower. The petals of the ring are of various gems whose initials spell out the word REGARD ie Ruby Emerald Garnet, Amethyst, Ruby and Diamond, with the diamond in the center. This is called acrostic jewelry. Floral theme is continue in the pretty gold work that makes up the shank/hoop of the ring. Alongside the gemset flower are forked gold shoulders with a raised flowers with engraved detail between them. Foliage continues down the sides of the shank. The rest of the shank has rolled over gold borders. Behind the ring is place for a little secret compartment that could hold a picture or the hair of a loved one. It would need a glass cover, which is not present today. Very pretty and romantic ring which makes the perfect gift for a loved one whether as an engagement, anniversary or Valentine's Day gift. Acrostic jewelry is rare and highly sought after. Marks and Metal: No marks, typical of antique jewelry. Gold was acid tested to ensure metal purity.
