Description: I believe this is an early EDISON "GEM" PHONOGRAPH, MODEL "B," based on the kind advise of an Edison collector. Father aquired this 60+ yrs ago; well stored, locked & untouched ever since. It's a super sweet piece of history ! Serial No. reads: 4 3 9 7 2 9 - original patent date 1901. Plays 2 minute records, not converted w/an "O" responder that played both 2 & 4 minute records. Update: This Edison Model B has an added after market 2/4 minute gearing that the original owner could install & play both 2 & 4 minute cylinders. The reproducer that is currently installed in the carriage is a Model H Four Minute reproducer to play Four Minute Blue Amberol cylinders. The "bumper" on the carriage rod was also added at a later date. It is untested, original crank arm is present & turns properly. The remaining top works' appear to be original, however complete. No horn. Great dark stained finished wood; likely green oak per research. The gold Edison name remains intact to front cabinet, however faintly. Needs a little TCL to a few metal parts: crank arm & few discolored silver areas should clean up nicely; slight finish loss to top black metal area, as shown.Top shelf wood has grim that will come off easily. No moisture damage on case anywhere. Recently discovered well stored on shelf in far back of a dry CA enclosed garage & new to market. All original old screws remain in place; 2 tiniest screws missing within top works. Original crank & metal case hardware remains strong & secure, the dome case lid locks securely in place; can easily carry by handle. All wood is very nice, still strong. I did a preliminary dusting & light exterior cabinet polish to reveal the rich color of this cabinet, exterior only. Great display. Refer to all detailed photos, please.
