Description: This interesting mask will make a wonderful addition to anyone's collection of African, West African, or Ethnographic art. We believe it is from Mali, most likely the Bozo people from along the Niger River. This mask was probably not worn, but was part of a large puppets the performers would have carried. It is nicely carved from a heavy hard wood and painted with red, white, yellow, blue and black paint. It shows some sign of use with a nice age patina and no sign of active insect or past infestation. There is a Hanging loop attached to its back for hanging on the wall.
