Description: Capodimonte Porcelain by Giuseppe Cappè "Game of Bocce" Large Vintage Intricate Sculpture - Rare! Exquisite! This belonged to a family member who for 30 years spent the month of October in Italy until her death in 1997. Upon her death, our family provided a place of honor for this magnificent piece, as it was one of her most favorite possessions. Italian porcelain by Giuseppe Cappè Sculptor (1921 - 2008) Features of this amazing sculpture: Ten beautifully crafted figures consisting of 9 elderly gentlemen, one grandmother, one young boy. These 10 characters are crafted with realism in their every physical and emotional movement as reflected in their stance, their physical actions and facial expressions. They are completely engaged in this competition! They express excitement, they whisper, they observe, they are focused and seem mesmerized by the skilled bowler all delighted to be enjoying this wonderful ritual of bocce ball! Most likely in the Italian countryside. The variety and uniqueness of their clothes, shoes, hats - not only in the detail but also in the perfect selection of complementary colors throughout, with special accents of suspenders, vests, ties, kerchiefs, etc. Attention to every small detail gives life not only to the characters but also to the surroundings. The fence; The chickens under the bench; the jacket hanging from the fencepost with the hat resting atop the post; the pipe, the cigar, the bocce balls in attendees' hands; the cigarette dangling in one observer's mouth! Finishes are both matte and gloss in varying degrees of each! One could spend hours looking at this unique piece and still see things they never noticed before! Length is 19" Height is 7" Depth is 8" Weight is 9 lbs Condition: Excellent with two very minor flaws hardly visible. 1) Small scratch on base under bowler's right hand. It is basically "hidden" by the bowler's shadow on the base 2) Gold and white design accent on front of base - the bottom of the right gold "feather" has apparently broken off. The missing piece would measure about 3/16". This flaw is almost invisible because of the gold trim around the entire base that it "sits on". (Shown in last three photos) Sculpture will be professionally packaged and insured, through either UPS or FedEx. Note! As stated above, there is so much intricate detail, many more dozens of photos could be taken to zoom in on them.
