Description: This is an entire book of 50 collections/pages of Liebig lithographed advertising cards with 6 cards per page for a total of 300 advertising cards. It is common to see single pages with six of these lithographed cards for sale; I would prefer not to break up this book and am selling the whole collection as one. It would be impossible for me to look up the specific details of each page (in the Liebig collection of 11,000 cards), so I have gone through this catalog and summarized the themes and subject matter as succinctly as I could and in the most general terms possible, as follows: American West (native Americans), Penguins and related birds, apes, parrots, birds of the Congo, mice, bears, animals of Australia, caterpillars, grasshoppers, winged bugs, cats, animals of the sea, frogs, Belgian military history, reptiles, tortoises and turtles, oysters/pearls, fishing with a fly rod, swamp bugs, bats and the like, more Belgium military history, Congo insects, native peoples of the Congo, spiders, Spanish court and military history bats and small creatures, native peoples of the Belgian Congo, kings of the Belgian Congo, more native peoples of the Belgian Congo, Netherlands seafaring and exploration, German military history, French court and military history, history of Hungary, history of Moscow, of Argentina, of Mexico, of Italy, of Denmark, of Rome, of Greenland, of Bulgaria, of Poland, fighter planes in battle, Vincent Van Gogh, Pieter Bruegel. The following information can be found on the internet: "The company: The Liebig Company has been the producer of "Meat Extract" . The famous German chemist Justus von Liebig was the inventor of the meat extraction process, which allowed to concentrate and preserve the essential nutrients and flavors of beef in the form of paste or boullion cubes. An English firm, who owned large cattle farms in South America, decided to start the production of the meat extract in 1850 and named it after its inventor. Soon, "Liebig Fleischextrakt" was sold all over the world. The production take place in Fray- Bentos and Colon (South America). The collection Around 1870 they started to publish fantastic colored lithographed cards and ended in 1975, after having published more than 11.000 different types of cards. Every subject is nearly always in a set made up of six or twelve cards. After the very rare early issues, the cards were exchanged by the Company for coupons, and are mostly found as complete sets. Each serie has 6 or 12 cards. The size is generally around 4.1" x 2.8". Most series were issued in more than one country, and can therefore be found in several languages. There have been published cards in Belgium, France, United Kingdom, Spain, Germany, Italy etc... The reverse of most cards wears advertising for the Liebig Company products or a recipe. The last lithographed series came out around 1939, but more interested cards have been edited until the seventies."
