Description: Cold stratified Pawpaw Seed(s) / seedling(s)Tree Asimina Triloba - ready to plant For sale are cold stratified pawpaw seeds that are ready to plant. Pawpaw seed will not germinate without proper stratification. Seeds will not germinate once dried. Thus stratification in damp/moist condition is critical. I have been propagating thousands of pawpaw trees from seeds. The germination rate is at least over 95%, if not close to 100% (see 2nd picture of the seedling that I grow, one seed in each cell). Pawpaw seeds take much longer to germinate than most of other plants. While beans germinate in just a few days, pawpaw seeds germinate in about 1-2 months in damp soil in room temperature. Please be patient. Note: some pawpaw seeds float even when fresh. That’s the way they propagate in nature (seed floats and dispersal by water). I have stored these seeds in sealed container with plenty of air, never let it dried. I have grown over a thousand seeds in the past few years from these mother trees, I can't tell the difference in germination rate between floater or sinker. The mother trees are offspring (crossed breed) of well-known patented cultivars. One mother tree produces large fruit over 1/2 lb with seed/fruit weight as low as 4% (the last 2 pictures demonstrate a sample of a large fruit). The average seed/fruit weight is 7%. Here are some samples I measured: date fruit weight(g) seed weight(g) % seed # 9/17/2018 238 17 7.1429 12 9/18/2018 169 13 7.6923 10 9/18/2018 91 5 5.4945 5 9/19/2018 130 8 6.1538 6 9/19/2018 110 14 12.727 10 9/19/2018 101 4 3.9604 5 9/19/2018 74 4 5.4054 5 9/19/2018 171 12 7.0175 10 9/8/2019 247 20 8.0972 13 Pawpaw trees need cross pollination, so you will need at least 2 genetically different trees in close proximity (15 ft or so). Tree grafted from the same variety are cloned with identical genes. Trees propagated from seeds are genetically different from each other. If you don’t have another pawpaw tree in close proximity, you will need at least 2 seeds. I would suggest more seeds if you were afraid of germination failure. I'll ship in sealed bag to keep the moist.
