Replica 1920’s Antique French Scarab Please read: I have collected antique and vintage jewelry for many years. I absolutely LOVE Egyptian Revival jewelry designs and especially those with Scarab Beetle themes. This replica was inspired by a very rare large French celluloid Scarab necklace that was circa 1920’s from France. This was a piece that sadly I could never afford ( if you can even find one expect to pay between 900 - 2000 for it ). BUT because I love it so much and because I am an artist I decided to try to replicate the originals with some modifications. I wanted to create something that was affordable and in a large size but adjusted for daily wear. The original Scarabs like this had a 6” wingspan! My replica’s have a wingspan of 4” which while they are still large that size is very wearable on a daily basis. The originals were made of celluloid. My replicas are made of earthen clay and resin. These replicas are designer signed on the back. ( One of the originals from the 1920's is featured in the book EUROPEAN DESIGNER JEWELRY by Ginger Moro on page 33 ) It is true these are VERY time consuming to create but the necklace is not only fun, it is artsy which is a style that France was known for in the Flapper era! This is a statement necklace for anyone who loves unique pieces and enjoys the many compliments they get when wearing them. Or if your like me you can pretend you are strolling down a Paris street in the 1920’s at the height of the Egyptian Revival Craze while proudly wearing your eye catching Scarab Beetle necklace :)
