Description: This screw replaces Delta part DP-527 and fits my Delta variable speed 15" drill press, model 15-655. It will fit other Delta and Rockwell models with the same spring housing shown in photo, DP-528. Once spring tension is adjusted, there is rarely a need to change it, so these screws do not wear out (don't worry about buying used-the least expensive is the best in this case). Because spring tension holds the screw in place, they may fall out and get lost during service. The original screw is also known by Delta part number 402-04-112-5001. This sale is for one screw only. This screw is about 1.75" long and about 3/8" in outer diameter. Installation: Before engaging the spring, the quill should move freely up and down and should want to fall quite freely. Adding tension to compensate for a binding quill can cause the spring to bottom out and break. I adjust spring tension just enough to return the quill to the top with the chuck empty. Then, with the heaviest bit likely to be used frequently, add tension if needed. Be careful: The adjustment screw should not bind against the spring housing which is a brittle casting. Forcing the screw will result in damage to the housing. If this screw does not fit your machine, please let me know. You will receive a refund if the screw doesn't work for you.
