Description: A very old bronze statue of the Hindu elephant god, Ganesh. The piece has a beautiful patina. The image itself is solid while the base is partly hollow. There is a copper sheet over the bottom, marked with 4 lotus petals. I could not track down this mark, or its possible meaning. I did find another bronze with a base of a single row of lotus blossoms that also had a copper covering on the bottom. It was crimped in a similar fashion. That piece was dated as 12th century The details are good, but more primitive than some other bronzes I've viewed. Please use the eBay "magnifier" to get a careful look at both the front and back of the statue. And the base. Condition is good. Some verdigris, some shiny areas from the usual rubbing. Weight is just shy of a pound: 15 1/2 ounces. Height is approximately 4 inches. Width is about 3, and its depth is about 2 1/4. This piece is out of the estate of a Chicago architect who travelled Asia in the Fifties and Sixties. He had many wonderful things. Please view all posted photos and ask any questions you may have. I'd be happy to answer. Shipping is a flat $19.75 via USPS Priority Mail with a signature request attached to help prevent mis-delivery and package theft. Carefully wrapped and securely boxed. I value the things I sell. And if you have a moment, you might want to take a look at my other interesting to rare items currently up for sale. Thank you.
