Description: Detroit Gems - 1946 NBL One of the worst teams in the history of professional basketball, the Gems played only one season in the National Basketball League, losing 40 of 44 games in the 1946-47 season. But... In 1947 when Ben Berger and Morris Chalfen of Minnesota purchased the Gems for $15,000 from Gems owner Maury Winston (a Jewler of course) they were inspired by Minnesota's nickname, "Land of 10,000 Lakes", so they christened their new team the Lakers. Which later became none other than the Los Angeles Lakers. Another PPLS original printed with water based inks on a heather grey fitted T.
