Description: Large Jaguar Head Alebrije Wood Carving Catrina Lovers Signed Mexican Folk Art This large jaguar head was hand carved and hand painted by the artist, Humberto Lazaro. His hand painted items are all one of a kind and he uses no stencils. This jaguar features bright colors, flowers and his beautiful image of his Day of the Dead "Catrina Lovers". This jaguar head is one-of-a-kind! History:Hand painted and signed by the talented artist, Humberto Lazaro Salvador, in Mexico. The artist, Humberto Lazaro Salvador, is from Ahuehuepan, Guerrero, Mexico. Ahuehuepan is a small indigenous village in Mexico where Humberto learned his craft and love of painting from his grandfather, Luciano. Luciano carved this fierce jaguar (with his ears down and ready to pounce) from a single piece of natural Guamuchil wood. Humberto's style of painting is unique with his use of the traditional Nahuatl flowers and Alebrije details along with a painting of the Mexican Catrina Lovers. Details:Humberto first painted the entire jaguar with matte black and added bright matte colors and shiny gold metallics. The natural grain of the wood adds texture and depth behind his painted details. This jaguar has bright eyes with orange in the center and red flower petals (eyelashes) around his eyes with metallic gold outlines. Bright flowers decorate his cheeks and Alebrije dots add accent to his cheeks, nose and a dot style flower is on the bridge of his nose. His hand carved fangs are bright white and he has a hand carved red tongue. Metallic golds outline the inside of his mouth and add accents around his bottom lip. The most unique part of this artist's design is his incorporation of hand painted images into each section. On the top is the beginning of a new painting. Humberto created a hand painted image of the Day of the Dead Catrina lovers. The woman, part of Humberto's Frida Kahlo series, has romantic closed eyes with red flower petal outlines and accents of metallic gold. Her face is detailed with a gorgeous red rose in her hair, a black spider web, a purple flower on her chin and gold swirls. Her bright red lips are embraced by the skull's teeth in a love kiss. The skeleton has one closed passionate eye and the well-known Mexican red roses frame their love. The bottom is hand signed by the artist, Humberto Lazaro. This is a very special piece of art, unique and one of a kind.
