Description: Temporarily strung strand is about 23" long...beads measure approx. 4mm wide to 8mm wide. Djenne beads derive their name from the ancient city in Mali where they are found. Also known locally as Nila beads, they are said to be made of ancient excavated glass and are centuries old. The exact provenance of these beads is not known but it is believed that they may possibly be Roman. This strand has a lot of blue colored ones and the condition seems pretty typical for this type of bead. They are from my personal collection that was acquired 20+ years ago.
