Description: Presented is an antique Japanese hand painted Satsuma bud vase made during the late 1800s or early 1900s. This is a wonderful quality piece featuring exceptional quality decoration. The vase is fabulously hand painted and hand gilded, with incredibly detailed and intricate scenes of samurai, lords and ladies, all in very rich and colorful garb. The vase has two figural handles in the form of dragons, which are likewise nicely detailed despite the small size of the piece. The vase is decorated in a variety of colors, but gold and red are the most prominent from a distance. The underside is signed in gold with the Shimazu mon, "Satsuma" (abbreviated), and what I'm fairly confident is "sho" but the character above, I can't quite parse. This piece is in great overall condition. There is some crazing to the glaze, as is characteristic of Satsuma pieces. Some minor wear to the gilding around the rim. There are no chips, no cracks, no breaks, and no repairs. This piece stands about 3 3/4 inches tall and measures about 2 1/4 inches in diameter. Powered by SixBit's eCommerce Solution
