Description: Up for auction is this Highly Desirable, E. Howard & Co., Split-Plate, L Size, Pocket Watch - circa 1901-1902! E. Howard & Co, Boston, series XII, L size, 3/4 split-plate model, 17J, gold-filled open face re-case with initials engraved to rear, white enamel double sunk dial, stem wind/ stem set, ornate nickel damascene, serial #701104. Not running and in need of an overhaul, but this example has a notably attractive damascene and is very much deserving of a restoration. The movement is not running, likely broken balance staff, winding and setting functions not tested, overhaul needed, excellent cosmetic movement condition overall, bright plates with many scattered micro-fine scratches, minor oxide to regulator assembly, missing stem detent screw, missing one pallet bridge screw. We have absolutely no idea how long this has sat, or what parts/ pieces may be scratched and/ or missing. (see photos) The dial has scattered outer chapter, scattered flakes with the most noticeable within seconds-register, numerous tight hairlines, tiny nick to center above seconds-register; hour & second hands present. Dial seconds-register with dried glue evident around its seating and we suspect seconds-register may be a replacement. (see photos) The case shows medium wear, some scuffing to lower cuvette, many dings along rear shoulder and edge, ding to band and to bezel edge near 2, tiny nick to bezel at 3, reduced engraving detail, strips of wear to brass to pendant, band, and to bezel and rear shoulders, thin strip of wear to brass to lower rear edge; tight bow, crown and stem assembly present; loose glass crystal. (see photos) This sharp looking watch would most certainly accent your Howard collection once restored, accurately re-cased or used for valuable parts! It is being offered in As-Is, Where-Is condition. No returns. Please email us with questions before autions’ end. Thank you for visiting! _gsrx_vers_1680 (GS 9.8.3 (1680))
