Description: - This recently acquired early HAMMOND Model 1 typewriter was carefully stored in an equally old home by equally senior owners. The serial number is 11354 REM – designating an early Hammond that was returned to the factory at some point for a remodeling or upgrade – these are quite scarce as not all or nearly all had this special designation. The condition is very good, to me it is quite well preserved. I am not equipped to make any sort of technical evaluation and so the machine is being sold as pictured. I can say the keys all seem to work, I see no damage or broken keys – the reverse key works, the carriage moves but I can’t say much more. It is clean and fresh looking – not out of a basement or attic or worse yet a barn – this innovative and unique looking typewriter did begin life 120 years ago and cost about $100 – which is twice what a good, necessary coal burning stove cost at $50. The wooden cover is really nice with no splits or other issues, the name on the front in red and gold is complete - the latches do not function as they should – the little hooks don’t cover the metal post sufficiently – OR I don’t know what I am doing – which is more than possible. This will be packed professionally by FedEx and shipped fully insured, shipping estimated at 90.00 East of the Mississippi and $120.00 west of the Mississippi More than just a pretty picture.
