Early Japanese Cloisonne Enamel Incense Burner - Understated Enamel Colors

Description: Pleased to offer a very early Japanese cloisonne enamel incense burner (koro) that dates around 1880 -1900. This covered globular shaped incense burner has been lovingly taken care of over the years and has the classical muted colors of the early pieces. These marked early examples are getting much harder to find. The spurious “Ming” dynasty is formed in wire on the bottom of the koro. The koro is in excellent antique condition but has the typical pits and concavities that most all early pieces will have. There are two small areas of counter-enameling loss. Overall, this incense burner is in excellent antique condition consistent with its age. As most of you know, I originally purchased this incense burner (koro) as part of my passioned efforts to obtain as many examples of these early works that blended both Japanese and Chinese forms, designs, and styles. These early works are fascinating as they ushered in the explosive development of both technological innovation and artistic expression. Specialists generally agree that less than 7.0% of Japanese enamels are signed or marked by the artist workshops. The height of this early incense burner is approximately 3.75 inches The width of this early incense is approximately 3.25 inches Overall, an attractive work in remarkably good condition that maintains a nice balance of the subtle understated enamel colors and the strong Chinese influence in composition and design. Due to the fragile nature of cloisonné enamels, this item will be double boxed and packed with tremendous care. Be sure to keep all original packing until you are completely satisfied and have left positive feedback. This item will be shipped by USPS Priority Mail with insurance to confirmed addresses within the United States. Due to the significant shipping cost and delays, we currently cannot ship overseas or make international deliveries at this time unless you are known to the seller and have previous transactions. International customers who utilize freight forwarding companies are asked to refrain from purchasing as these types of deliveries are resulting in extremely long delivery times which is not conducive of a positive buying experience. Please ask any and all questions prior to buying. Thank you!
